ACTIVITIES
These fun activities will help you and your child to have a taste of Passover. Also check out our Passover curriculum for additional ideas.
- Take a nature walk and find some beautiful items to decorate your seder table.
- Make a cradle/basket for Baby Moses out of foil and see if you can keep him dry. (For full directions see our Challenge of the Day – Friday, March 27.
- Help build pharaoh’s cities out of tooth pics and marshmallows or play dough. (For full directions see our Challenge of the Day – Thursday, April 2.)
- Get out your backpack and think about what you would need if you had to leave home in a hurry. What would you take? Pack your backpack to see what fits.
- Compare bread and matzah. What do you notice? Taste them both – what do you notice? Bake some bread from scratch to see how the yeast rises. Bake some matzah and notice the difference.
- Play Freeze Dance with some Passover Music. You can find many fun songs online. Here are a few favorites for Freeze Dance.
- Afikoman Mambo, Rabbi Joe Black https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yivQDh9x8_w
- Pesach Bamba, Shira Kline https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8-Pj1BJIxo&list=OLAK5uy_k6IRQo6C4ndR3KZnYajcf_gfA0HusWEdk
- Pharaoh Pharaoh, Mah Tovu https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca8IyaNL-Ak
- Create the items on the seder plate using play dough, crayons and paper, or any other media you can find in your house. Find a list of the items on the seder plate and their meanings here: https://reformjudaism.org/jewish-holidays/passover/learn-about-passover-seder-plate
- Clean your kitchen. Passover is a great time for Spring cleaning. Children can be very helpful when given a specific job, for example, have them empty out a low cabinet and wash it down with soapy water and a sponge. Clean out your refrigerator. While this may be a bit messy at first, but they will get better with practice and eventually be helpful!
- Create the Nile River Valley. Have children cut or rip green and brown paper and tape it to the wall like bull rushes. Then the children can pretend to float Baby Moses down the Nile River Valley in a basket.
- Make matzah with play dough. Roll the play dough out flat and use a fork to put holes in the play dough. Discuss what toppings would taste good on matzah.
