What I Like About Passover, by Varda Livney

Song – The Building Song

Bang, bang, bang
Hold your hammer low
Bang, bang, bang
Give a heavy blow

For it's work, work, work
Every day and every night,
For it's work, work, work
When it's dark and when it's light.

Dig, dig, dig
Get your shovel deep
Dig, dig, dig
There's no time for sleep

For it's work, work, work
Every day and every night
For it's work, work, work
When it's dark and when it's light.

Activities –
  • Build Pyramids –
Find some blocks or building materials in your house and build a pyramid.  How wide do you want it to be?  How tall?  Is there anyone working on it?  (You can add lego people or animals to your build.)
Picture
  • Sink or Float –
You will need a bucket or a bowl of water and items that will fit into the bucket/bowl to test.  (You might choose some lego pieces, a block, a crayon, a cup, a plastic dino….) Fill your bucket/bowl at least half way.  Guess whether each object will sink or float, then drop items into the water one at a time to see if you were right.  Which items sink?  Which items float?  Why do you think that is?  Print this chart or make your own and record your results.

  • Edible Pyramid –
Using a snack you have in the house, see if you can construct a pyramid.  Will cookies work?  How about cereal?  Will stacking the items be enough or will you need something to hold them together?  What might work?  (Maybe cream cheese or sunflower butter?) How does it taste?
Learning –
Fine motor, engineering, literacy, scientific thinking (hypothesis and testing), language and vocabulary
