SOLEMN ASSEMBLY - CHAG HaATSERET
Atseret means cessation assembly; or a concluding assembly.
This is another name for Shavuot in its designation by Talmudic rabbis as a concluding holiday to the Pesach (Passover) period (just as Shemini Atzeret acts as a concluding holiday for Sukkot).

Activities
Flower Pounding -
You will need some colorful flowers, paper (watercolor paper works very well as does thinker drawing paper), a paper towel, rocks for pounding. Collect some flowers and place them on your paper. Cover with a paper towel and pound with a rock to release the pigment from the flower onto the paper. Be careful of your fingers! What colors do you see? Are they the colors you expected? Can you fill the whole paper with color? |

Make House Rules -
It's important to have rules so that we can all get along and live a happy life. What are some rules you have in your house? Are there rules you wish you could change? Are there some rules you don't have that you think you should have? Sit with a grown up and write out your house rules. When we write them down, we will remember them better. |
|
Flower Crowns -
This is an Israeli tradition that is fun and beautiful. You will need flowers, scissors, wire, wire cutters, and flower tape or whatever tape you have. Measure a piece of wire to the head which will wear the crown. Cut the flowers so that a few inches of the stem is left. Use the flower tape to attach the flowers to the wire. Attach as many flowers as you want. Enjoy wearing your flower crown. |
|
Tablets of the Ten Commandments -
You will need paper, scissors, Q-tips, and paint. Fold your paper in half and draw an arc at the top. Cut along your arc to make the tablets rounded. (This part may be a grown-up's job.) Open your tablets and use the Q-tips and paint to decorate. You can decorate any way you want. Will you put words in like the words in the Torah? Will you draw pictures to tell stories like the ones in the Torah? |
