WELCOME TO JERUSALEM!

ירושלים

Jerusalem is the capital of the State of Israel and is considered a holy city in Judaism, Christianity and Islam.  Jerusalem (Yerushalayim in Hebrew) is considered one of the most ancient cities in the world.  The beauty of Jerusalem inspires millions of people around the world and has given her the title of the city of gold.
IVRIT!
Learn some Hebrew with Rabbi Lisa.
SHIRA!
Sing with Cantor Fox.
RIKUD!
Dance with Teacher Leslie.
Dance:  KI ESHMERA SHABBAT – (Because I Shall Keep the Shabbat)
Welcome Shabbat with this dance as we practice lighting candles, sharing juice, and blessing the challah.

ACTIVITIES
  • Matching Game the Playgrounds of Israel–
Print Playground Pictures twice and cut on the black lines to create a matching game.  (To make the game sturdier, glue the pictures to index cards or a heavier paper.)  For younger children, put the pictures face up and have the children match them.  For more of a challenge, put the pictures upside-down and have the children flip two at a time to try and make matches. Start with just a few pairs and add on for even more of a challenge.
  • Write notes for the Kotel (Western Wall of the Temple) –
For thousands of years, people have gone to the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem and left notes with their thoughts and prayers.  What would you write?  Ask a grown up to write your words, or write them the way you write.  Draw a picture describing what you wrote.
Picture
  • Build the Kotel –
Using blocks or whatever you have in your house, build the Western Wall.  You can do this in Small World fashion or use larger blocks to build on the floor.
LEARNING:  working memory, fine motor, contribution – taking care of each other/our world, imagination, engineering, motor planning
