HARVEST FESTIVAL - CHAG HAKATSIR
This is another agricultural name for Shavuot and refers to the wheat harvest. The barley harvest is celebrated at Passover and ends as the wheat harvest begins on Shavuot.

Activities
Paint with Spices -
Gather some spices and in small bowls, mix a small amount of spice with some water to create fragrant paint. Using a paint brush, paint the spice mixture onto paper. How does it smell? Try several different spices. Are the colors as expected on the paper? I didn't have a paint brush when I tried this activity, so I made one by tying two rubber bands together and cutting the end. I then used the rubber band paint brush to dab the spice paint mixtures. What could you use for painting besides a paint brush? |

Paper Flowers -
Making paper flowers is a very popular Shavuot activity in Israel. You will need pipe cleaners and tissue paper. If you want to cut the tissue paper, you will also need scissors. Gather the pieces of tissue paper for your flower and stack them. We recommend you use at least three pieces of tissue paper for each flower. Push the pointy part of the pipe cleaner through the center of your stack of tissue paper. Twist the top end on both sides of the tissue paper to secure the flowers. Crumple the tissue paper and then form your flower pedals. There is no wrong way to do this! How many flowers will you make? Will you make any into bracelets? How will you use them to decorate? |

Nature Bingo -
Print up to all four of the Bingo sheets. Get something to write with, a clip board if you have it, and a bingo sheet for each person playing. Go outside and see if you can find four in a row of the items on the board, circling or crossing off each item as you find it. The four can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal. Want more? Can you find everything on the sheet? Can you create your own Bingo board? |
