The first week of school went extremely well. It was calm and busy at the same time. The children began their transition into their new settings and the teachers were able to start forming friendships and trust within their classroom families. Even our youngest students were separating and their discomfort was short lived. By 1pm dismissal today, the children left with smiles and their first baked challahs. (Always a favorite.)
A NORMAL FEELING It’s natural for your young child to feel anxious when you say goodbye. Although it can be difficult, separation anxiety is a normal stage of development. With understanding, patience and coping strategies, it can be relieved and should fade as your child gets accustomed to their new surrounding, teachers, and as the school schedule becomes regular. Please know, helping children to transition into school is something we expect and are used to. We know with love, patience and lots of fun activities, the children will acclimate quickly. The teachers plan fun and engaging activities to help the children over the hurdle of separating. Our teachers are in their perspective age groups because they truly have a gift with that particular age. They have seen it all-- and have the patience to see it through. They are amazing and are already working their magic. Please know if separating in the morning, with your child upset is upsetting to you, feel free to hang out in the library or MPR. Please do not stay in the hallway or peek in the door of the classroom. The children always see you and that makes the separation harder. Thank you so much for your support.
